We need to be pragmatic and do the most expedient thing and agree a language that the world will teach its children as a compulsory second language. The most obvious is English or Spanish which are already the most widely used languages I believe. For expediency only, not because I am English, it probably has to be English because it is already widely spoken throughout the world and the chosen second language of many. I believe it may be the main language used worldwide for computer programming and financial and medical institutions.
According to Genesis 11, if it is a story based on truth, mankind once had one language that even God was concerned about the strength we have when in accord in that manner. However, Christ has come now and one would assume there is no danger now of our coming together in such a manner. If the world had one agreed language that we ALL can speak, as well as our own native language, there is less misunderstanding and a pooling of knowledge and information for the greater permanent good for ALL societies and nations, not just the West.
Unless there is a medical, or some other relevant reason. It should be compulsory that all immigrants in any country, should learn the native language of the country in which they reside within 3 years of arrival if they wish to stay. How can they function properly, or be integrated properly if they do not? I have seen many parents, not elderly, rely on their children to communicate. They will also remain segregated and trapped within their own culture and thinking, often abiding by destructive customs and inhibiting their family and causing segregation within the society they wish to stay. There has to be an effort on the the part of immigrants also, the English also if they go to Spain for instance, should learn Spanish, or to France, French.
Genesis 11: 1- 9 1And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. 2And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there. 3And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for mortar. 4And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.5And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded. 6And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. 7Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech. 8So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. 9Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
